be here now

my friends & i, being the spoiled midwestern white kids that we are, have smart phones. we love technology. we love texting. we love internets. we love all of these fanciful things. however, we get carried away at times with our phones. (i'm sure i'm speaking to a lot of people in my generation, & some). we're constantly tweeting about where we're at, facebooking people we just meet, and generally abusing technology to the finest degree bordering lining on addiction.

what started as a joke to prompt the jerk (or the person who just caught) with their phone out while we were hanging out, we would say "be here! be present!"

windows (wait, whats that? i only know people who own macbooks) released a smart phone that might actually compete with the iphone. i haven't read any reviews on, i'm just saying that because i honestly just don't know what to say about the phone, except i like the commercial.

texting while running? guilty. i've totally texted someone while i've been running before. hell, i even texted my friends who were watching me at mile 15 during my marathon that i, and i quote, "hate my life."

which is manly?

reprints from an elementary school in 1936 (i hope the date is right, oops)

i'm not sure which one is manlier, but the guy in the red for sure has his swagger on.
i'd hang out with both of them though. maybe even be in the same gang as one of them. not the one on the right though, i don't look good in pull over crewneck sweaters.

there was a collection of these on the table, however, the store was very overpriced on most of their items. beautiful store setup and rooms though. check it out: mission road antique mall.

wool & leather boots

whenever i saw these women's shoes in the jcrew catalogue, i thought,  "someone needs to dice the heel on these shoes & it make it happen for men." wool & leather. you know i love mixing textiles, jcrew, but help a brother out.

thrift store finds | 10/13/10

i never liked wearing ties in my youth. why? because i could never find/afford a dress shirt that was tailored or fit well enough. well, that changed once i got my hands on an american apparel oxford. slim fit, long sleeve, sharp colors.
alright? i got the oxford, now i need a tie. and what else could i use? tie bar. tie clip. whatever.
found!

i wanted something unique & dang, this is pretty sweet. +25 badass points & it only set me back 6 bucks. it was my first tie bar, so why not splurge a bit. and, hello, it's a sniper rifle*. a freaking gun. gold too (which i prefer over silver).
later, i stopped by my grandma & grandpa's house afterwards to ask my grandpa if he had any tie bars he didn't want. i was already on a roll & figured it never hurt to ask. plus, i stopping by the grandparents house is always nice.

grandpa hooked it up & gave me two sets of tie bars + cuff links. i love my grandparents, not because they give me things, but because in mid sentence they kicked me outta the house because they had a 2:00 rosary appointment via the television. hilarious.

*i'm not sure why i like the idea of having a gun. i didn't not like hunting, however, i'm been on a numerous hunting trips with my dad & brother. and by hunting trips, i mean sitting on the tailgate eating beef jerky and coloring in my coloring books.  i had responsibilities though even at a young age, i was mainly in charge of sitting on the cooler & divvying out beers to my dad's friends.

jonathan adler x seven + wallpaper

i keep on stumbling upon jonathan adler's work, specifically his collaborations, but have yet to see some of his actual home products. between adler's nook case & the new pair of jeans i picked up, his work has been making it's way into my life. now he's making his way onto my iphone.

what's also rad is these electronic wallpapers are also actual wallpapers that you can purchase & slap up on your own walls. but really? wallpaper is so dang expensive. (i've got student loans to paybeck)

my third alder goods sighting was in las vegas. i was there this past weekend for an event & the family wanted to go shopping. i immediately trounced off from the family & stopped into seven's outlet.  -30x34+ is a difficult size to find, but i went looking anyway. i went to the clearance area of the outlet store* and picked up the darkest denim i could find. & i found a pair...

great fit. super slim. great dye. + they were 60% off the already reduced price = $50 for a pair of sevens. you can't pass that up.

*the clearance rack in an outlet store is a gold mine. as if going to an outlet mall isn't a treat enough, a clearance section in the store. it's like a double rainbow. all the way. across the sky. oh yeah.

nothing to busy

BUSY
[...]We're skittering about like hyperactive gerbils, high not just on caffeine but on caffeine's luscious by-product, productivity. Ah, the joy of doing, accomplishing, crossing off.
As kids, our stock answer to most every questions was nothing. What did you do at school today? Nothing. What's new? Nothing. Then, somewhere on the way to adulthood, we each took a 180-degree turn. We cashed in our nothing for busy. [...]
