DIY file cabinet

I plan on using this filing cabinet as a dresser to store my underwear, socks, tshirts, etc etc. I cut out cardboard and contact papered the cardboard to cover the bottom of the rusty drawer.
The question is: how do I change the color of it? Spray paint? Regular paint will scratch off, I think.
